Homework begins in the month of October. The purpose of first grade homework is to practice and reinforce the skills we are learning at school. As per the Warwick School District homework guidelines for first grade, ten minutes should be spent on assignments, and ten minutes should be spent reading. Students should study their weekly spelling list and sight words Monday-Thursday. There is no Friday homework. When reading groups are in full swing, I will send home either a leveled book or paper passage for fluency practice. All books or paper reading passages sent home in the students' clear homework folders should be returned the next school day for use in class.
Please visit my "Mrs. T's Reading Hub" website for more information, multi-media tutorials, and tips for applying Science of Reading strategies at home. Please note, the navigation bar is at the top of the Reading Hub website. Thank you for your support with homework, and your partnership in helping to children to grow as strong, confident readers!
