About the Warwick Board of School Directors


The Warwick Board of School Directors is composed of nine elected community members. These individuals have accepted the responsibility of assessing the educational needs of the community in order to assist in designing the most responsible school program possible. The major function of the Board of School Directors is to frame a set of policies that defines the guidelines for operating the schools from kindergarten through twelfth grade.

The Board of School Directors meets regularly on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the District Office. Agendas are posted on the Warwick website the Thursday before each meeting. Parents and residents are invited to attend. All formal actions and decision making are voted on in these public meetings.

A unique feature of the Warwick School Board is its committee structure. Four standing committees - Education, Student Activities, Building and Property, and Finance and Legal - meet monthly to focus on specific areas of concern to the schools. Each of these committees is composed of board members, school administrators, teachers, and community members. This composition allows for diverse thinking and broad-ranging discussion. Although committee meetings are not decision-making sessions, recommendations made by the committees provide a basis for school board consideration and action.

The Warwick Board of School Directors also meets monthly as a Committee of the Whole for the purpose of discussion, information, and study. Formal action does not occur during these sessions. Several other board committees convene on an "as needed" basis for consideration of specific issues and include: Personnel, Labor and Management, and Legislative. All committee meetings are open to the public, except for Labor and Management and Personnel.
