On September 25th, the German Honor Society held its annual induction ceremony where eight juniors were inducted into the Warwick Chapter (Pennsylvania Epsilon Eta) of the National German Honor Society (Delta Epsilon Phi).
The following students were inducted:
Daisy Davis, Jaxon Dzurko, Zachary Hoffman, Rya McKain, Elizabeth McKenna, Emily Stauffer, Austin van Grouw, and Olivia Weaver
Current members include (all seniors):
Jacob Soslow (president), Jacob Evans, Louisa Landis, Sarah Miller, Carly Ruchalski, Connor Shoff, Sophia Steffy, and Molly Swift
The induction was held at Lititz Springs Park and the advisor is Cassidie Blose.
“My favorite part about German Honor Society induction is when current members of the German Honor Society introduce the new members. Each current member is assigned a new member. As the new member walks up to receive their candle for the lighting ceremony, their student mentor talks about their sports, hobbies, other clubs, etc. It forms a connection between the current and new members and allows the group to really bond from the very beginning. It also makes the induction ceremony largely run by the students, which gives them ownership of their Honor Society.” - Molly Zelewicz, Advisor and High School German Teacher.
Delta Epsilon Phi was founded in 1968 by Käthe Wilson, a German teacher in Coral Gables, Florida. Its mission is to recognize outstanding students of the German language and foster an increased interest in the study of German.
This Honor Society has been sponsored at Warwick since the 2004-2005 school year, when (then) senior Caitlin Hirneisen petitioned the administration to allow a chapter to be established at the school. Since then, the group has been involved with community support, charitable organizations, tutoring, German activities and fundraising for supplies, honor cords, certificates, and other activities.
The following are the membership requirements:
Completion of German III and continued enrollment in a German course.
Academic average in German of 3.6 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted)
Overall GPA of 3.2 (unweighted)
No disciplinary suspensions or administrative detentions
Academic integrity
Congratulations to the new inductees!
