Earlier this week, the Warwick Junior High Cross Country Team held its annual Elementary Cross Country Fun Run. Students in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade were invited to run cross country courses that ranged from 400m to 1600m.
This free event was held outside of the Middle School and offered a great opportunity for elementary students to connect with middle school students and share in the joys of running. The Junior High athletes helped to facilitate the event from start to finish by assisting with greeting families and helping them register, running the races with each level of students, and being there to cheer on each student as they crossed the finish line.
“There is nothing quite like watching students react to the cheers of a crowd as they near the finish line. They suddenly become convinced they can do this very hard thing with the support of many around them. We are grateful to be able to provide this unique athletic opportunity to families in the district.” - Marni Van Grouw, Junior High Head Cross Country Coach.
Awards were given to the top 3 boys’ and girls’ finishers in each grade and the top 5 finishers qualified for the Lancaster County Championship Race at the end of this month on September 29th at Overlook Park. The elementary school with the highest participation was also recognized.
