Lititz Elementary presents: “Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears”

Tonight, April 21st, our Lititz Elementary students will have the opening night of their musical, “Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears.”

Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears is based on a West African pourquoi, or “why,” story. A pourquoi story provides a fanciful explanation for a common occurrence—in this case, why mosquitoes buzz around our ears! According to this tale, one day, long ago, a family of Agamas were cooling themselves in the shade of a berry bush when Mosquito decided to play a trick on them. The resulting, disastrous chain of events following Mosquito’s trick will lead the audience to understand why, to this day, mosquitoes buzz in people’s ears.

The show will feature a number of Lititz Elementary’s 5th and 6th grade students who have been rehearsing since January to bring this storytelling show to the stage.

The musical is directed by Amy Griffith, a 5th Grade Teacher at Lititz Elementary, and by David Houseknecht, a Music Teacher at Lititz Elementary. Both Amy and David agree that their favorite part of directing the musical is getting to work with the students through music and drama. They love that they’re able to give students a chance to play the role of a character, watch the students gain confidence as performers, and see the pride that students feel during their performances.

The 25 minute show is open to the public, free of charge, this Thursday and Friday evening at 7:00PM in the Lititz Elementary gym.

We hope to see you there!
