Warwick School District

2023 National Merit Scholarship Program

In April of 2022, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced that four Warwick students received recognition in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Justin Charles, Xavier Flaiz, Mariah Diffenbach, and Amelia Hain received this honor.

In 2021, these students took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) and met the requirements to enter the 2023 National Merit® Scholarship Program.

The Selection Index score of 207 or above was needed to qualify. These high performers have shown outstanding academic potential. There were more than 1.3 million program entrants and these students are among 50,000 of the highest-scoring students to enter.

Yesterday, September 14th, 2022 it was announced that Amelia Hain had moved on to be named a Semifinalist in the 2023 National Merit® Scholarship Program. She is among less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors to make it to the semi-finals.

Come February, the 2023 National Merit® Scholarship Program will announce the names of this year’s Finalists. Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. In order to be considered for a Finalist spot, Amelia will need to have an outstanding academic record throughout the remainder of her high school career, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT® or ACT® scores that align with her previous performance on the qualifying test.

Good luck Amelia and congratulations on a job well done Justin, Xavier, and Mariah!
