2022-2023 School Year:
Reading class focuses on decoding (sounding out words), encoding (spelling), fluency, and comprehension. Different syllable types are taught to sound words out and spell them correctly. Read and Nonsense words are practiced with each syllable type and then tested at the end of a unit.
Fluency is practiced and assessed weekly using a program called Six Minute Solutions. Students graph their progress each week to be aware of their growth.
Comprehension is assessed bi-weekly and mini-lessons for comprehension are given bi-weekly also.
Overall reading skills are taught to assist students in all areas of their learning.
