John Beck Elementary

Welcome to 6th Grade!

It is hard to believe that in a few weeks we will be back in school! Before school begins, I would like to welcome you to my class, as well as fill you in on some things. As in previous years, the school provided a yearly planner, which I encourage you to use on a daily basis in the classroom. I have already informed your parents or guardians of what you will need for the school year. Most importantly you will need:

• • Organization is key in 6th grade…what works best for you? (ex. a large 3 ring binder, a small binder for each class, or folders for each class).
  • For Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science, you will need some type of folder WITH pockets.
  • TWO spiral notebooks (3 or 5 subject)…one for Language Arts and another for  Content (Science and Social Studies) - 5 Star or Mead brand is preferred because of its width.
  • You will NOT need anything for Math, as we will supply a specific type of Math Folder that we use for a notebook as well!
  • Earbuds or Headphones

Optional items that you could donate to our classroom:

• • Glue sticks for classroom use for Interactive Notebooks
  • Tissues 
  • Extra pencils, erasers, and paper

It is also very important that you come to 6^th grade with a positive attitude, an open mind, and the willingness to work hard!

My room is in the 6^th grade wing and it is the third door on the right (room 302).  I will be outside the classroom on the first day helping you find your way.

I am really excited to start the school year.  Just remember that everyone will be a little nervous on the first day.  We will spend the day getting to know one another and setting up our classroom procedures and routines that will work best for us throughout the year.  Enjoy the remainder of the summer and I will see you soon!
